SUMMARY:\"A Journey in Landscapes\" - An Abstract View: Works by Kate Meyer
  Fitzpatrick
CLASS:PUBLIC
DESCRIPTION:“Each painting is a remembered moment\, a glimpse of a feelin
g evoked\nby being in the landscape. I take a journey within my process an
d\nstart to see abstracted shapes\, shadows and objects in my\nsurrounding
 s. I stretch those observations to simple form as well as\nthe colors seen
and unseen. I want the viewer to take their own\njourney within the work.
To feel something they can’t quite put\ntheir finger on. A sense beneat
h the calm. A sense of place. The\nwonderful thing about Abstraction is th
at it allows you to explore and\nexpress your feelings\, giving you the op
portunity to shape something\nout of nothing\; you create atmosphere\, moo
d\, place\, all out of a white\ncanvas. These are exercises in experimenta
tion\, which prepare me for\nthe moment of chance on canvas. I begin to se
e something in the\nimage….the experience of the landscape. Abstraction\
, of course is\nnever completely abstract\; there is the origin of an idea
 \, an\ninspiration\, a journey of process.   I work primarily in oils &\
nwatercolor. In my oil paintings\, I use both remade color and color I\nmi
x on my own using dry pigment. I also use pigment to enhance color\nand hu
 e. In watercolor\, I use both wet & dry brush techniques to\ncreate textur
e and depth of color. In all of my work\, I start in plain\nair using wate
rcolor. Then that will move into oils on small canvas\nfor studies\, befor
e moving onto large canvases or multiple canvases\nfor diptychs & triptych
 s.\" Venue: Rehoboth Art League.
