“Bountiful” at Gallery One

“You crown the year with your bounty, and your carts overflow with abundance,” Psalm 65:11. At
Gallery One this month our carts are overflowing with abundance as we feature paintings that
reflect the bounty and beauty of the season, and our unique area. Artist Eileen Olson sums this
up perfectly in her acrylic painting, “True Blessing,” “Organic shapes come alive with a plethora
of colors in greens, golds and deep reds in this painting, and are used to evoke abundance. I
wanted to represent the very essence of nature’s bounty with free expression in my acrylic
abstract.” Similarly, artist Laurie Fields evokes abundance in quantity in her abstract, “Morocca
1” in oil.

Our unique area evokes the Bounty of our harvests as well, whether they be from the sea or the
land. In Edward Lewandowski’s, oil painting, “Chesapeake Tongers,” and Laura Hickman’s
pastel, "Fishing Along the Canal," our local waters are illustrated. Ed shares his first hand plein
air experience, “Oysters were once bountiful in the waters around Smith Island, MD. Today,
local watermen still harvest these tasty bivalves using a backbreaking harvest method called
tonging. I captured this scene of a crew pulling oysters from the water on the first day of the
season in October 2023. The abundance of our harvest from the land is beautifully celebrated in
Dale Sheldon’s acrylic, "Sussex Orchard Bounty," Joyce Condry’s,” Vino Rosso,” and Marybeth
Patterson’s oil painting, “Lloyd’s of Lewes.” Marybeth writes, “Lloyd’s market in Lewes has been
a mainstay for both local residents as well as visitors. I wanted to capture the abundance of
fresh produce, but even more the warmth and appreciation we have in Lewes for this treasured
gem.”
