 ewis\nand Bridgeville\, DE\,” generously donated to the Rehoboth Art Lea
 gue\nan outstanding collection of fifty-two paintings and various document
 s\nof the late artist. The range of work from this collection dates from\n
 the 1930s-circa into the 1980s. It includes portraits\, domestic and\nfore
 ign scenes\, and a self-portrait. The self-portrait is extremely\nimportan
 t and one that is of the early man. The Rehoboth Art League is\nhonored to
  add this important body of work to its Collections. Born in\nBaltimore\, 
 Maryland\, Jack Lewis received a degree in art from Rutgers\nUniversity in
  1935. He arrived in Delaware in the late 1930s and was\npart of the Works
  Project Administration’s Civilian Conservation\nCorps. He first served 
 as a painter in Leipsic and then\, briefly\, in\nLewes where he recorded\,
  through his art\, the activities of men\nworking on mosquito control on t
 he Delmarva Peninsula. His artwork\ndebuted in 1936 at the V.I.A. Summer A
 rt Exhibition where he continued\nto exhibit for many years. When the Reho
 both Art League was\nestablished\, he was given the first one-man show at 
 the new\norganization. He was both an active exhibitor and an art instruct
 or at\nthe Art League for more than five decades. He had also regularly\ne
 ntertained at membership meetings with his accordion and his\nlegendary St
 rolling Marionettes. Jack Lewis was the author of several\nbooks of prose 
 and illustration on subjects in the mid-Atlantic region\nand beyond. He ta
 ught art in Delaware public schools and various\ninstitutions. In the 1990
 s he was the subject of a documentary filmed\nfor PBS. In 1938\, Jack Lewi
 s signed the Doors of Fame and sketched a\nsmall landscape of Sussex Count
