DESCRIPTION:“Ghost Forest” is an ongoing photographic documentation tha
 t began\nin the summer of 2022. Depicting the emergence of ghost forests a
 long\nthe mid-Atlantic coasts\, particularly in the DelMarVa area. When sa
 lt\nwater is pushed inland into freshwater ecosystems due to storms\,\nris
 ing sea level\, and climate change\, the salinity of the soil becomes\ntoo
  high. The Atlantic White Cedar is particularly susceptible to the\nhigh s
 alinity\, and is the first species to die. The skeletal white\ntrunks stan
 ding against lush landscape are sounding the alarm of a\nchanging climate.
  This stark contrast is both beautiful and\ndisconcerting\, creating visua
 l and literal gaps in the density of the\nforest. My hope for this project
  is to bring visibility to this\npernicious consequence of climate change.
  The large scale photographs\nare dramatic and meant to hold the viewer’
 s attention with their\nsize and contrast. I continue to expand this serie
 s in the effort to\ncall attention to this situation and asks the viewer t
 o reflect on the\nloss of tree species\, farmable soil\, increased floodin
 g and climate\nchange overall. I hope to engage with people who are aware 
 of the more\novert dangers of climate change\, but may not have knowledge 
 of this\nspecific consequence. The communities that live\, work and visit 
 our\ncoastal areas may pass through ghost forests regularly\, but may not\
 nrealize what they are indicative of. This exhibition proposal is an\ninte
 rdisciplinary conversation between art\, climate change\,\nenvironmental s
 cience and the history of this coastal landscape Venue:\nRehoboth Art Leag
 ue.
