SUMMARY:Inside the Studio of Ethel PB Leach
CLASS:PUBLIC
DESCRIPTION:Curated by Ellen Roney Hughes June 13 through July 27\, 2025 Op
 ening\nReception: Friday\, June 13\, 2025 (5pm-7pm) Ethel Pennewill Brown
Leach\nwas known as a leader of women painters in Delaware for the first h
alf\nof the twentieth century and was a founding member of the Rehoboth Ar
t\nLeague. The League has an extensive collection of Leach’s work which\
 nincludes oil paintings\, etchings\, illustrations\, drawings\, and her\np
ersonal diaries. Observing the art\, we often wonder what the working\nenv
ironment of the studio was like\, what materials and equipment were\nused
and how well organized the studio was (messy versus neat).\nAlthough mediu
ms and materials are more advanced today compared to the\ntime when Leach
was a working artist\, they still serve the same\npurpose. This mini exhib
ition gives us a glimpse into what Ethel’s\nstudio might have been. In 2
024\, RAL was gifted a collection of\nEthel’s personal equipment that wa
s used in her studio such as her\neasel\, camera\, woodblock cutting tools
\, and many of her sketches and\nillustrations. These artifacts gave birth
to the idea of displaying\nthese important treasures. Venue: Rehoboth Art
  League.
