SUMMARY:Justin Hayward and Christopher Cross
CLASS:PUBLIC
DESCRIPTION:Having chalked up over 50 years at the peak of the music and\ne
ntertainment industry\, Justin Hayward’s voice has been heard the\nworld
over. Known principally as the vocalist\, lead guitarist and\ncomposer fo
r the Moody Blues\, his is an enduring talent that has\nhelped to define t
he times in which he worked. Over the years the band\nhas sold more than f
ifty-five million albums and received numerous\nawards. In 2018\, along wi
th the other members of The Moody Blues\,\nJustin was inducted into the le
gendary Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.\nBorn and brought up in Swindon in the
UK\, Justin’s interest in music\nstarted early when he was five years o
ld and his grandfather\nbequeathed him his large collection of 78 rpm reco
rdings. “It opened\na world of imagination to me\,” says Justin. Havin
g taught himself to\nplay the ukulele\, he soon progressed to guitar and b
y his early teens\nhe was playing in local groups. Upon leaving school at
17 he answered\nan advertisement in Melody Maker newspaper and successfull
y auditioned\nfor UK Rock and Roll hero Marty Wilde. “I got the job play
ing guitar\nfor Marty – it was a dream come true for me”. Justin credi
ts Marty\nwith encouraging him to become a songwriter\; he made several\nr
ecordings with Marty’s ‘Wilde Three’ and also appeared with\nthem at
the London Palladium. They remain close friends to this day:\n“Marty is
still my hero”. Having started the ball rolling as a\nsongwriter in his
own right with a couple of solo singles\, he joined\nthe Moody Blues in t
he summer of 1966. Hitting his stride immediately\nwith the single ‘Fly
Me High’\, he followed it up with the classic\nhit songs ‘Nights in Wh
ite Satin’ and ‘Tuesday Afternoon’ from\nthe seminal album ‘Days o
f Future Passed’. This album went on to\nbecome a favourite of the NASA
astronauts and was taken aboard the\nAtlantis shuttle space craft by Chief
astronaut “Hoot” Gibson on\nmany missions. This purple patch showed n
o sign of abating as Justin\ncreated other classics\, era and genre-defini
ng hits ‘Question\,’\n‘The Voice\,’ ‘The Story In Your Eyes\,’
‘I Know You’re Out\nThere Somewhere’ and ‘Your Wildest Dreams.' T
hese laid the\nfoundation for the incredible success story of the Moody Bl
ues – as\nwell as his solo work – which continues to this day. In 2022
Justin\nrevived his role as ‘the journalist’ in the touring productio
 n of\nJeff Wayne’s ‘War of The Worlds’ and in 2023 he co-headlined a
n\nextensive tour of the USA with Christopher Cross. Justin’s latest\nsi
