DESCRIPTION:From 2020 through 2023\, the Lewes Historical Society\, in conj
 unction\nwith the African American Heritage Commission of Lewes\, conduct
 ed\nresearch into the conditions that lead to a diminished population of
 \nthe African American Community within the town of Lewes. In 1800\,\nth
 e racial population make up of Lewes existed as 17% enslaved\nBlacks\, 30
 % free Blacks\, and 53% Whites. Present day\, there are less\nthan ten 
 Black families still living in Lewes that can trace their\nlineage to t
 he early 19th Century.  Discussion of ignored\,\noverlooked\, or purposef
 ully hidden historical facts resulted in\nemotional reminisces of communit
 y elders’ contributions to oral\nhistories and the creation of a doc
 umentary film\, “Voices Heard:\nThe History & Legacy of the American Co
 mmunity in Lewes.”\n
