Nameboard Carving Workshop

Shipcarving is an old and honored art. The addition of decorative carvings to vessels reached a peak of absurdity in the 1600s and 1700s. Hosted by the Bethel Maritime Museum, in this basic woodcarving class participants learn a brief history of shipcarving and carve their own sample board using chisels and gouges. No experience necessary. Tools and materials provided. Bring a bag lunch. Class size is limited and students must be 18 or older (unless special permission). Advanced registration is required.
