SUMMARY:Still -- Works by Melissa Husted-Sherman
CLASS:PUBLIC
DESCRIPTION:Still Works by Melissa Husted-Sherman July 22\, 2022 - August
  21\,\n2022 Homestead Opening Reception: Friday\, July 22\, 2022 (5pm to 7
pm).\n  “Still” is a series of still life paintings that explore the\
npainting process and how a painting changes over time. The nature of\nsti
ll life is inviting and comfortable\, allowing an audience to\napproach it
easily. The accessible size of these paintings\, generally\nin the range
 of 8 x 10” to 36 x 36”\, invites close inspection of\nthe work. The ex
hibit encourages the viewer to slow down and closely\nexamine a painting\,
making it easy to contemplate the development of\nthe work. Husted-Sherma
n’s process is open and exploratory\, always\nin flux. She generally use
s a palette knife to paint\, which creates a\nunique texture. She also use
 s brushes\, ribs\, and cloths to add and\nremove paint freely\, changing c
olors\, shapes and composition as the\npainting develops. Traces of ideas\
, changes\, previous iterations are\nvisible on the surface of the work. C
olor and light are what spark a\npainting for here. But\, as she paints\,
more formal concerns develop\n– how far can an image be pushed toward ab
straction? For the artist\,\nlearning that making a painting can be dynami
c and fluid and has a\nfreeing experience.  Venue: Rehoboth Art League.
