Terms of Endearment
Clear Space Theatre is continuing its tradition of a winter Reader’s Theatre fundraiser. The 2021 Season theme is “Here We Go Again” and Clear Space is returning to collaborate with Beebe Medical Foundation for the Reader’s Theatre fundraiser. Proceeds from ticket sales will benefit Beebe Oncology Services and Clear Space Theatre’s Arts Institute. This year’s play is TERMS OF ENDEARMENT.
TERMS OF ENDEARMENT was adapted for the stage by Dan Gordon; based on the screenplay by James L. Brooks. Challenges in life and love test the resilience of a mother-daughter relationship. Though Emma is often exasperated by her highly-opinionated mother, Aurora, they talk every day about their problems, from Aurora finding unexpected love even as she becomes a reluctant grandmother, to Emma's struggle in her troubled marriage. But when they need one another most, will they be able to find courage in each other? This funny and touching story captures the delicate, sometimes fractured bonds between mothers and daughters, husbands and wives, and lovers, both old and new.
For the third year in a row Mary Caligiure returns to direct the Reader’s Theatre play. Caliguire recently directed THE CURIOUS INCIDENT OF THE DOG IN THE NIGHT-TIME and THE WOMEN. “I am really excited to be directing another Reader's Theatre performance at Clear Space this year. This play is a bit different than the other Reader's Theatre performances insomuch that it is a much faster paced show. At the beginning of the show, we see a mother with her newborn baby and the show immediately catapults into a quick montage of scenes highlighting key points of the newborn's transition into the teen years and adulthood. It's a show about relationships and communication and how we sometimes get into our own way. It's a show about the fragility of life and the importance of letting down our guard. The audience is taken on a journey of laughter and tears all within a little over an hour,” says Caligiure.
“Clear Space Theater and the Beebe Medical Foundation have enjoyed a strong and loyal partnership over the years. I am so grateful to Clear Space for choosing our Oncology Services as part of the beneficiary of this production. No doubt, the arts are such an important part of our overall health and well-being.” Shared Thomas J. Protack, President of the Beebe Medical Foundation.
