The Amazing Eastern Oyster: Aquaculture, Biology and Ecology

All hail the Eastern Oyster! Learn about the development, production and ecosystem services of this important bivalve. University of Delaware’s Dr. Ed Hale will share more about national and statewide trends in farmed production, recent research efforts to examine how shellfish aquaculture could enhance shoreline resilience, and how UD uses its pilot-scale hatchery to encourage and enhance the expansion of the shellfish industry in Delaware. Dr. Ed Hale is a fisheries and aquaculture specialist with the University of Delaware’s Delaware Sea Grant College Program and holds a faculty appointment in UD’s School of Marine Science and Policy. This presentation is offered in conjunction with University of Delaware’s College of Earth, Ocean and Environment, Mariners.
