The Tuskegee Airmen

The Milford Museum American History Series will celebrate Black History month with a program about the Tuskegee Airmen presented by Andre Swygert on Saturday, February 8, 1:00 p.m. at the Milford Public Library in Milford, Delaware. Through extensive publicity in recent years, many Americans have a passing familiarity with the Tuskegee Airmen and their overall achievements during World War II. However, the individuals who contributed so much to the record of success of the Tuskegee Airmen in defending our nation are much less known. This program will present the history of the Tuskegee Airmen through stories of the pioneering black aviators, determined politicians, far-sighted educators, professional military personnel, and others involved in the effort to show that African Americans could fly and fight as well as anyone. The stories of selected Tuskegee Airmen will also be presented to recognize individuals particularly associated with the unit’s success during the war and afterwards, and who individually and collectively helped to effect changes in the military and civilian society that reached far beyond their wartime service.
