Summer Place Hotel

Super cheap and close to the beach. Rooms are tiny so don't expect much but good for a solo trip. Only issue is (and this may partially be Booking) I stayed here twice. First time was fine. 3/5.

The second time I made sure to specifically book the room I had last time because it was on the second floor and near the balcony so I could smoke if I needed to. Instead of the room I reserved (which was a full bed) I was given a queen on the third floor. It was a little more steps to climb with all my stuff and way further from any smoking area but I said whatever it's a bigger bed. The issue I had though was that when I looked at the exact room I was given on the day of booking it was $300 cheaper then what I paid for the exact same thing. I mentioned this to the owner and he said to talk to Booking. I talked to Booking and they said because they waited so long to get back to me that they needed the invoice. I contacted the property for an invoice and they sent me, what seemed fine to me, but Booking claimed was simply their receipt for my booked trip and that they needed something with the properties letterhead showing that I stayed. I contacted the property several times about this and they just sent me the exact same thing over and over even when told what they were supposed to send. Combined with the fact that my receipt reflects a different room than I actually booked it has been virtually impossible to get the difference refunded. Booking has attempted to reach out for the invoice but he responded "I already sent this to him three times" and some other rude stuff and proceeded to send the same thing that he has been told several times is not correct. Booking has suggested I reach out to a lawyer in that area next or local authorities to seize an invoice but that would cost more than it's worth. I am talking to the authorities though.

First off, despite everything, the location is perfect. Literally a minute's walk to the boardwalk. We were also aware right off the bat that we wouldn't get luxury for a place this price. It's just simple things that really disappointed us. There were several stains and other people's hairs on the bed sheets, stains on our towels, the floor was dirty, the door didn't close properly.

Everything was just very shoddy. Of course it was a cheap place and would never be incredible, but these are very simple things that aren't maintained properly and make it an uncomfortable experience. The bed sheets weren't clean or fresh, and to be honest that's the bare minimum you should expect from a hotel room, even if it was cheap. The door not closing properly also made us feel a bit unsafe.

I don't mind shabby or basic, but when the place is dirty it just isn't nice. I feel a bit harsh giving it a one star rating, but I want the owner to stand up and notice these bad reviews and just put a bit more effort into making it a more pleasant experience for his guests. The building itself definitely holds quite a lot of potential but if it stays like this we would not recommend staying there. Spend an extra tenner somewhere else, it'll be worth your while.

If you don't have very high expectations and are just looking for a place to sleep and shower, it's just fine. Great location close to the beach. Has what you need IE a comfy bed and a shower, other than that it's barebones and mildly neglected. It does the job though. Inexpensive bed in a great location. Parking is fine in the off season. Very much a "know what you're paying for" situation.
