Since 1993 The Cultured Pearl has been responsible for bringing the art of sushi into the lives of hundreds of thousands. Susan Townley Wood, the designer and proprietor, has created an atmosphere that is unique in the restaurant industry. From the Pearl's long-term staff to its loyal customer base the energy and passion Susan brings is evident in us all. Part of her secret is to always keep them guessing. What will the new construction bring? What new delicious dishes are on the next menu release? The excitement builds with each new project completed! With what we believe is the strongest kitchen in the area the food will never disappoint. Created and prepared by Susan's husband Robert along with many of the Eastern Shore's top chefs. Susan's design and decorating is sure to please. Always keeping in mind, and respecting, traditional Japanese architecture Susan has created an environment full with bamboo, flowing water, Koi and live birds. The Pearl boasts a 15,000 gallon rooftop "lake" that is home to many aquatic species and hosts diners nightly in the raised gazebos. Her desire for the best has shown itself in our magnificently crafted sushi bar and drinking bar tops. Made from a single black walnut tree the two bars together measure nearly 50 feet.
Staying true to their own family needs, Susan and Robert have created a Family Dining environment which allows parents to bring their children into a fine dining restaurant without feeling unwelcome. Chef Robert has also designed a Children's Menu based on his own daughters' likes. Teriyaki, Tempura and Sushi alongside ever changing other kid friendly treats that make for a well received and nutritious meal for the next generation of Pearl devotees.

The atmosphere made this dining experience top notch! We are went there at on a Friday summer night and were fortunate to have the choice to sit on their upstairs patio overlooking the street. Not only was their interior decorated beautifully, but their outside seating completed the aesthetic and was breathtaking (I unfortunately forgot to take a pic!). In terms of their food, I thought it was good quality but a little pricy for the portions they were serving. But, I would come back simply for the nighttime outdoor seating.

Although known for their sushi, they also serve incredible entrees. I had the beef terriyaki. The cubes of steak were juicy and tender and were smothered in a savory terriyaki glaze. For dessert, we shared the exquisite Vietnamese Coffee Creme Brulee which was sweet and crunchy with a perfect hint of coffee flavor. Service was knowledgable and friendly. Atmosphere was contemporary and energetic. Great place to enjoy Asian cuisine.

Love the vibe!! The decor is eclectic and brings a fun flair to the dining experience. Always greeted kindly by the staff and we got a seat with no wait (midweek & offseason). The menu was robust and sushi was solid. Cuts of fish on the tuna & salmon sashimi were thick. Rolls were a good portion for cost. We enjoyed the flavors. Our server was friendly but a bit aloof. Nice surprise to have a slice of cake to celebrate a birthday in our party.
Still the best sushi in town! Plus they have gf soy sauce (tamari) upon request. We are excited to return!
